Upload an existing Minecraft world

Bring a singleplayer save or a world from another host onto your NGP Cloud server.

1. Prepare the world on your computer

  1. Find your world folder:
    • Singleplayer (Windows): press Win + R, type %appdata%\.minecraft\saves and press Enter.
    • Another host: download the world folder using their file manager or SFTP.
  2. Open the folder and confirm it contains level.dat and a region folder. That's the folder you'll upload.
  3. Make sure the world was last played on the same or an older Minecraft version than your server runs.
  4. Compress it into a .zip (right-click → Send to → Compressed (zipped) folder on Windows).

2. Upload it

  1. Stop your server.
  2. Take a backup in case you want the old world back.
  3. In the file manager, delete or rename the existing world folder (for example to world_old).
  4. Upload your .zip to the main folder. For worlds over ~100 MB use SFTP.
  5. Click ⋯ → Unarchive on the zip, then delete the zip.

3. Point the server at it

  1. Rename the extracted folder to match level-name in server.properties - by default that's world.
  2. Double-check that level.dat is directly inside that folder, not in a subfolder like world/MyWorld/level.dat.
  3. Start the server.

The server generated a brand-new world instead

That means it couldn't find your world. Stop the server and check:

  • The folder name exactly matches level-name (it's case-sensitive).
  • level.dat isn't nested one folder too deep.
  • The upload finished completely - compare the folder size with your local copy.
