Creating and restoring backups

A backup is a snapshot of your server's files that you can roll back to. Take one before every big change: installing mods, updating versions or editing worlds.

Create a backup

  1. Open your Dashboard → Backups, or go to the panel and click Backups.
  2. Click Create Backup.
  3. Give it a name you'll recognise later, like before-1.21-update.
  4. Optional: list files to skip under Ignored Files (for example logs/ or large cache folders).
  5. Click Start Backup. It appears in the list with a progress indicator.

Each plan includes a limited number of backup slots. When they're full, delete an old backup before creating a new one - or lock the backups you never want deleted by accident.

Download a backup

Click the ⋯ menu next to a backup and choose Download. Keep an off-site copy of anything important.

Restore a backup

  1. Stop the server.
  2. Click the ⋯ menu next to the backup and choose Restore.
  3. Decide whether to delete all files before restoring:
    • Tick it to get an exact copy of the backup.
    • Leave it unticked to keep files created after the backup that aren't in it.
  4. Confirm, wait for the restore to finish, then Start the server.

Automate it

Use a schedule to take backups automatically - see Schedule automatic restarts, and add a Create Backup task.
