Set up your Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) server
Get a CS2 server public, password-protected or set up for scrims - including the Steam token every public server needs.
1. Get a Game Server Login Token (GSLT)
Valve requires a token for servers that show up publicly and that players can join normally.
- Go to steamcommunity.com/dev/managegameservers and sign in.
- Under App ID enter
730, add a memo likeNGP Cloud CS2, and click Create. - Copy the Login Token.
2. Add the token to your server
- Stop the server.
- On the panel's Startup tab, paste the token into the Game Server Login Token (GSLT) variable.
- Start the server.
3. Configure server.cfg
Open game/csgo/cfg/server.cfg in the file manager (create it if it doesn't exist):
hostname "NGP Cloud | 5v5 Competitive"
sv_password "" // set a password for private scrims
rcon_password "change-me" // needed for remote admin
sv_cheats 0
mp_autoteambalance 1
Save and restart.
Game modes
Set the game mode with the Game Type / Game Mode startup variables (or a startup command, depending on your server):
| Mode | game_type | game_mode |
|---|---|---|
| Casual | 0 | 0 |
| Competitive | 0 | 1 |
| Wingman | 0 | 2 |
| Deathmatch | 1 | 2 |
Connect
-
In CS2, enable Settings → Game → Enable Developer Console.
-
Press ~ and run:
connect 203.0.113.10:27015; password yourpassword
Plugins (Metamod + CounterStrikeSharp)
Plugin frameworks sit in game/csgo/addons. Installing Metamod also requires adding a line to game/csgo/gameinfo.gi, and CS2 updates can overwrite that file. If plugins stop loading after a game update, re-check gameinfo.gi first.
